I was not planning to have any surgery when I first saw Dr. Tamplen. I had already had 4 surgeries at Kaiser, all successful, but was not interested in anymore.
I had some questions about a mark on my face that I was putting hydrocortisone on and my eyes were closing at the stoplight and during the day and especially at the end of the day. I thought I was overly tired for some reason, and was becoming afraid to drive.
Dr. Tamplen let me know exactly what was going on when I saw him. I had Brow Ptosis and he told me how it is corrected and how he would also be able to work to correct some parts of my face and neck so that my face would be natural in appearance.
I was shocked but not for long as Dr. Tamplen was kind, caring, and very reassuring. I never imagined I’d ever have surgery on my face. I went home to discuss with my husband and then researched Dr. Tamplen. His credentials, education, awards, and experiences are astounding. I felt so lucky to have such an accomplished surgeon right here at my Oakland Kaiser, and immediately scheduled the operation. I knew if I waited or hesitated, I risked not getting Dr. Tamplen and then wouldn’t do it and have my eyes permanently closed.
Today, I have recovered and look like the self that I always was. I can see so well. I had no idea my pupils were half covered. People say I look so rested and rejuvenated and young, and even “pretty”!, but Dr. Tamplen is so skilled that they never ask if I had some surgery, more of, “Did you lose weight? I was scared but now am so grateful to Dr. Tamplen for giving me back a healthy and positive outlook because I look so much better and alive.
My best friend from high school came to visit from Santa Barbara. I told her ,ahead of her arrival, what surgery I had had, as she knows me so well, she would notice. However, at breakfast she forgot that I’d told her and just kept saying that I looked so great and that I looked like the girl she’s always known. My eyes open, my expressions like they’ve always been when I was younger. I reminded her that I had the surgery on my eyes and face and she was shocked because it looked so natural and normal, just so much better and healthier and rested and beautiful eyes now that you can see them.
She said she was going to take a month leave from her medical practice in Santa Barbara, come to Oakland and stay at my house, then get Kaiser Medical Insurance so that she can go to Dr. Tamplen and ask him to restore the face that projects her beautiful personality, like it used to.
It’s amazing how Dr. Tamplen can perform such excellent surgeries that change people’s lives and the quality of life everyday. I am so grateful that he was able to help me. I have no visible scars or anything that would even suggest that I underwent anything at all. I had a knee replacement surgery in the same month and people ask about that but don’t notice anything particular about my face and eyes, just say, ” I look GREAT!” Not many facial surgeons can do such delicate work that does not look like ‘work’ but just exudes new youth, energy, rejuvenation and a happy person.
I highly recommend Dr. Tamplen to anyone that is in need of some facial surgery and wish to thank him so very much for what he has done for me, outside AND inside. The kind and caring attention he shows his patients while answering all questions along with his unbelievable “gift” of such remarkable ability in his field make him the best surgeon possible.
